Brentford Community Boathouse is looking for an enthusiastic and community-minded rowing coach to help support and grow our expanding charitable rowing programme in Brentford.
This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in re-establishing an active rowing club in the heart of Brentford, based from our growing community watersports site on the Thames and local waterways.
We are looking for a coach who is passionate about helping rebuild a vibrant and successful rowing club with strong community roots. The project is supported by local stakeholders and builds on a proven track record of creating thriving rowing and watersports participation in the area, which has now been further strengthened through the development of the charity and wider community partnerships.
Our ambition is to establish a sustainable and successful rowing club in Brentford that provides opportunities for juniors, adults, schools, beginners, recreational rowers, and competitive athletes alike.
About Brentford Community Boathouse
Brentford Community Boathouse is a registered charity focused on improving access to watersports and outdoor activity for the local community.
Our charitable aims are centred around:
Increasing participation in rowing and paddlesports
Supporting young people through sport and outdoor education
Improving physical and mental wellbeing
Providing affordable and inclusive access to watersports
Developing community engagement along the waterways
Creating pathways for local people into coaching, volunteering, and leadership
We work closely with local schools, families, youth groups, and community organisations to remove barriers to participation and help more people experience the benefits of being active on the water.
Alongside rowing, the charity also delivers kayaking, canoeing, gig rowing, holiday camps, school outreach, environmental projects, and community events.
The Role
This is a flexible part-time coaching and development role that would suit someone passionate about community sport and grassroots rowing development.
The successful candidate will help support:
Junior rowing sessions
School rowing programmes
Learn-to-row courses
Adult and community rowing activities
Regattas and rowing events
Community outreach projects
Volunteer and assistant coach development
The role combines practical coaching with helping develop participation and engagement within the wider community.
Responsibilities
Deliver safe and engaging rowing coaching sessions
Support the development of junior and adult rowing activities
Assist with school and outreach programmes
Help grow participation in community rowing
Support the rebuilding and long-term development of the Brentford rowing club
Maintain high safety and safeguarding standards
Support equipment organisation and boating operations
Contribute to a positive and welcoming club culture
Assist with events, competitions, and community activities
About You
We are looking for someone who:
Ideally has rowing coaching experience
Enjoys working with young people and mixed abilities
Is enthusiastic, approachable, and community-focused
Has strong communication and organisational skills
Can work flexibly, including some evenings and weekends
Holds relevant rowing coaching qualifications (preferred)
Holds safeguarding and DBS clearance, or is willing to obtain this
Experience in school rowing, community rowing, or club development would be highly beneficial.
