Warning - Please read!!

  • Several people have been scammed by users selling speed coaches and other items (generally under £500).
  • Please try to collect the item in person as they usually promise to send you the item by post.
  • Once you transfer the money the buyer cuts all contact.
  • If you are recieving the items by post be sure to only send the money via a service like Paypal so that you can get the money back from Paypal if you have proof that the item was never sent.
  • If you are using PayPal use the "business transfer" option NOT the "family and friends" option ("family and friends" option has no way of getting the money back from the scammers!)

This drop-in sliding-seat rowing unit is used, but in good working condition, and comes ready to go with carbon-fibre sculls.
Bought in 2008 the unit was the source of a lot of enjoyment on family holidays over three-four years, but has since then been unused, stored in a dry shed. Now moving house it is time to let it go, but the memories will remain. The unit is being sold on the basis of 'buyer collects' (we live east of Hull).

This was the third iteration of Alden's 'Oarmaster' (their description is below), and benefits from lessons learned on the previous two versions. As a result the unit is well designed, very easy to set-up, and has easily stood up to the relatively little use it received from us.

The oars were described to me as 'practice oars' by the rowing club that sold them. They have carbon fibre looms, are lightweight as you would expect, and perfectly satisfactory for use with the Oarmaster. PLEASE NOTE: I bought these at a much reduced price due to them being damaged during shipping from the supplier to the club—both have a minor split in the loom (see photos), which was 'bandaged' by the club, but never used. They have never given me any cause for worry, and as far as I can tell the repair is still good.

Alden's description of the 'Oarmaster III'
The base of the OarMaster is a ladder frame constructed by connecting two flanged rails. These rails are formed of hard coat anodized 6061 aluminium extruded from our own custom die. Incorporated into the structural shape are radiused longitudinal tracks. These tracks accept our custom screw-machined delrin sheaves mounted on the same stainless steel ball bearings found on all our rigs. The sliding seat is fitted with six such wheels in our time tested design of four load bearing and two captive wheels. The result is a smooth, quiet, and effortless ride.

We further construct a stretcher box and pan off of the stern of the ladder frame. We punch, form, and weld .090 6061 aluminum sheet stock to produce a simple, sturdy, and lightweight unit. This structure accepts, without flinching, the power of your leg drive and the tourque imparted by the attached rigger. The stretcher pan is fitted with non-skid padding, comfortable velcro footstraps, and a built-in heel trap. Optional plastic heelcups can be simply attached to prepunched holes.

The rigger is formed from 1.25" OD thin wall drawn seamless 6061 aluminum tubing. We form and weld (certified) this material into a chevroned wing with the triangular geometry that imparts amazing stiffness into a three pound assembly.

The oarlocks are molded of fiberglass reinforced nylon and incorporate an adjustable locking gate. The locks swivel on our own screw-machined stainless steel pins.  This system produces a rigid non-slip fixture fully adjustable for load (spread between oarlocks), fore and aft pitch (for blade control), and height.
