Interim Head of Junior Rowing — Lea Rowing Club, Hackney
Part-Time | £20,000-25,000 | Fixed-term until 1 August 2027
We are looking for someone to lead our junior rowing programme on an interim part-time basis for the 2026/27 season. This role would suit someone with leadership experience who wants to build rowing-specific expertise, or a rowing coach looking to step up into a leadership role.
As we professionalise our junior system, this new role will take overall responsibility for its leadership, organisation and administration — managing a budget of around £150,000, safeguarding and welfare, and the logistics of races and camps. You'll line manage all junior coaches, including 2 professional coaches and 15 session coaches (paid and volunteer).
Although there will be opportunities to coach, this isn't primarily a coaching role. We need someone who leads through others to deliver the practicalities of a modern junior rowing setup: comfortable delegating, developing people, and taking the load off volunteers and coaches so our junior athletes get the support they need off the water - while spotting opportunities to grow the programme further.
Fixed-term for the 2026/27 season, starting before September. Requires flexible hours (early mornings, evenings, weekends) and travel to competitions and camps. A permanent successor role will be advertised later in the 2026/27 season.
Open to all backgrounds - we want rowing to be for everyone in Hackney, Waltham Forest, and Haringey.

Our junior athletes have won national titles, represented Great Britain, and after leaving us have gone on to row at top universities, the Boat Race, and the Olympics.
