We are seeking an experienced and passionate Assistant Coach to participate in the club’s coaching programme, drive athlete development, and support NTUBC’s strategic goals. The Assistant Coach will play a pivotal role in shaping the club’s training culture, and leading crews to success at BUCS and other major regattas.
Key Responsibilities
•Work closely with the Lead Coach to ensure that NTUBC needs are met
•Deliver high-quality coaching sessions on land and water
•Coordinate race preparation, selection, and logistics for key events
•Support volunteer and assistant coaches
•Promote a safe, inclusive, and positive training environment
•Monitor athlete progress and provide regular feedback
Essential Skills & Experience
•Previous coaching experience in rowing, ideally at university or club level
•Strong technical knowledge of rowing technique, training principles, and race strategy
•Excellent communication and leadership skills
•Ability to motivate and inspire athletes across a range of abilities
•Familiarity with British Rowing safety standards and safeguarding policies
•Relevant coaching qualifications (e.g. British Rowing Level 2, or willingness to obtain)
•First Aid certification and DBS clearance (or willingness to obtain)
Desirable Attributes
•Experience coaching at BUCS or Henley-level events
•Understanding of university sport structures and student-led clubs
•Boat maintenance and rigging knowledge
•Flexibility to work evenings and weekends
