Tyne Amateur Rowing Club is seeking an ambitious and passionate Talent Coach to help lead the development of one of British Rowing’s newest Partner Academies. This full-time role will combine junior athlete development, participation growth and community outreach, helping to build clear pathways from first experience through to regional and national performance.

Tyne Amateur Rowing Club has been selected as a British Rowing Partner Academy and is seeking a full-time Talent Coach to lead the next phase of development of its junior pathway.

Founded in 1852, Tyne ARC is one of the oldest rowing clubs in the United Kingdom and is home to thriving junior, senior and masters squads. The club also hosts Northumbria University Boat Club and RGS Newcastle and has developed Tyne Youth Rowing into one of the region’s leading junior participation programmes.

The successful candidate will work closely with British Rowing, local schools, Newcastle PE and School Sport Service, community partners and the club’s volunteer coaching team to expand participation, identify talented young athletes and support their progression through regional and national performance pathways.

Initially, the role will focus on growing participation through Tyne Youth Rowing, Learn to Row programmes and school partnerships, creating a larger and more diverse participation base. As the programme develops, the emphasis will increasingly shift towards athlete development, junior squad management and progression through British Rowing’s performance pathway.

Key Responsibilities:

Deliver high-quality coaching to junior athletes both on and off the water.

Support athlete progression through club squads and into regional and national performance pathways.

Expand participation through Tyne Youth Rowing, Learn to Row programmes and school partnerships.

Develop strong relationships with schools, community organisations and British Rowing pathway partners.

Support and develop volunteer coaches.

Contribute to the long-term sustainability and growth of the programme.

Essential Requirements:

British Rowing Level 2 Coach (or equivalent) or demonstrable coaching experience with a commitment to achieve this qualification.

Experience coaching junior athletes.

Strong communication and relationship-building skills.

Commitment to inclusive coaching and safeguarding.

Ability to work evenings and weekends.

Enhanced DBS clearance and safeguarding training (or willingness to obtain).

What We Offer

This is a unique opportunity to help shape one of British Rowing’s newest Partner Academies and play a leading role in developing the next generation of rowers in the North East.

The successful candidate will receive ongoing mentoring and professional support from British Rowing and Tyne ARC, access to coach development opportunities and CPD, and the opportunity to work within a growing programme that combines community engagement with ambitious athlete development.
