London Rowing Club – Women’s Squad Coach
London Rowing Club (LRC) seeks a Coach for its Women’s Squad, joining the coaching team in delivering a rowing programme in support of the Club’s objectives to win at Henley Royal Regatta (HRR) and other high status events in open and Masters categories.
About the Role
This role focuses on coaching duties for the development of the Women’s Squad at LRC across sweep rowing and sculling. The aim is to produce crews capable of winning the club and intermediate level events at HRR, the championship events at Henley Women’s Regatta and finishing in the top 10 at the Women’s Eights Head of the River Race on a consistent basis.
While the Chief Coach will draw up the overall high performance programme for men and women, this position is responsible for the implementation of the programme for the Women’s Squad which will involve planning, tailored delivery, crew selection and review that supports athletes to achieve their goals, in collaboration with the Chief and Men’s Squad Coach and the Assistant Coach. The position also carries responsibility for athlete recruitment and identifying and managing volunteer coaches for the women’s programme.
The Squad coach will create a positive, safe and inclusive training environment, delivering technically excellent coaching. The individual will have strong organising and communication skills as well as being able to demonstrate their ability to operate to a high performance standard. We expect that, within this environment, this individual will support and guide the development of women athletes, coxes and coaches. The post holder will promote a culture of excellence, enjoyment, respect and continuous improvement.
Candidate Profile
The candidate must have the highest levels of integrity, ethical behaviour and adherence to principles of safe sport and fair play. In addition, the ideal candidate will satisfy most, but not necessarily all, of the following skills and experiences:
• Previous experience as a rowing coach at junior or senior level and able to
demonstrate experience of being a team player, organising sessions, planning
training camps, maintaining equipment, race administration and arranging
transport/accommodation;
• Proficient in a number of aspects of high-performance rowing such as rigging,
training physiology, nutrition, biomechanics (specifically the Peach system), and
psychology;
• 3+ years of experience as a high-performance rower, student athlete and/or
coach within a successful programme;
• A level 2 coaching qualification or equivalent or willingness to attain;
• UK driving licence with experience of handling trailers;
• RYA level 2 launch driving qualification desirable;
• Tideway experience desirable
• Together with the communication skills referred to above, the ideal candidate will have broader professional work experience that demonstrates a high level of administrative capability, diligence, initiative and relationship management.
Locations
The Women’s Squad primarily trains from the Club on the Embankment at Putney but also spends time at Dorney, other locations in the Thames valley and overseas on the Club’s annual training camp.
