Coxes are often overlooked, by accident or simply due to lack of knowledge on the subject. There is a shortage of both coxes and resources to support coxed crews at higher levels of competition. Elevate Coxing aims to change this by working directly with you and your club to provide dedicated cox coaching for hire.

This can be in the form of regular online video calls with coxes (approx. £49.99 per 90 minutes), in-person work at water sessions (approx. £59.99 per 3 hour session) or both (£69.99 for one 90 min video call and also one session). A key benefit of cox coaching is the amount of work doable remotely, making this a very effective option. Costs are estimates and can be discussed further; payment takes place by bank transfer. These can be at a scale of your choosing, ranging from one-off individual work to whole-squad work across the season. The first session is a free taster before you commit to anything - once you do, the rates are far lower than comparable programmes. Speak to your coxes afterwards and see what they think.

So what does cox coaching entail? Our website has more detail, but generally it is effectively empowering coxes to act as their own units and providing them structure to grow in, with regular performance targets - just like rowers. An example online session would be spent reviewing audio recordings from a previous outing, then discussing that feedback and finding ways to implement that in future. An example in-person session would be to help the cox and coach set up the boat and brief the crew, follow and provide limited feedback from a launch/bike, debrief the crew and then sit down with the cox afterwards to discuss potential points to improve upon.

Finally, a little about my own credentials. As the first (to my knowledge) Northern rowing cox to individually race for a national team, I raced in the Scottish Junior Men's 8+ at HIR 2026, having raced BRJC the week before and Henley Masters Regatta the week before that. I am in my sixth year in the sport and am currently aiming to trial for GB for the 3rd time. Combined with 4 Tideway heads, taking part in the WOX Coxswain Development Programme, club captaincy and helping to develop my own school's coxes, I know I am ready to help you.

Any questions, just get in touch, and let's start elevating your coxing.
