Chez
Boileau is a well-established sculling camp, run from a private house on the
outskirts of Bergerac (accessed through a low-cost airport, trains and
road). The camps run from Easter to 7th October and have been
going since 2015, with a focus on using yoga to help scullers and rowers with
posture, awareness of technique, breathing and flow.
Bergerac
has some of the best rowing conditions to be found on the River Dordogne,
France’s fifth-longest river, and one of its cleanest (a listed UNESCO
‘Biosphere”, due to the biodiversity).
Chez Boileau
runs bespoke training camps for small groups of scullers and families. The camp
has their own stock of sculling boats, road bikes and Yoga studio. If
you’re a coach and planning to bring a group here, there are several options
(using dorms at the Bergerac Rowing club or renting houses) for larger groups.
Using Bergerac as a base, you might also like to visit the famous rowing lake at Brive,
or in the opposite direction Libourne,
both about an hour’s drive away and ideal places for time-trial work.
Also within easy reach is Alan Whitwell’s excellent Penne Sculling base on the River Lot,
which has some of the best training conditions you’ll find anywhere.
Look at our River Map for
more info on the Bergerac stretch of water.
In 2025 Ali will also be running Telemetry analysis weeks.
If you haven’t used Telemetry yet, perhaps 2025 is a good time to have your
technique and power output analysed to optimise your stroke angles and
application of power through the stroke, and to learn how to train effectively
with this useful tool.
