Roof Racks and Trailers

For most rowers, a good set of roof racks is the most practical solution. Ensure your vehicle's roof can handle the load, and use proper boat cradles or foam supports.

Securing Your Boat

Always use multiple tie-down points. Cam straps are preferred over rope or bungees. Don't overtighten as this can damage the hull - straps should be snug but not crushing.

Protecting During Transit

Use a boat cover or bag to protect from road debris, insects, and UV damage. Pay particular attention to the bow and stern which are most vulnerable.

Loading and Unloading Safely

Always use at least two people when loading a single or double. For larger boats, a loading helper or roller system makes the job much easier and safer.

Long Distance Transport

For longer journeys, check your boat and straps regularly. Be aware of clearance heights and avoid sudden braking or acceleration. Consider overnight security if leaving the boat on your vehicle.

Regulations

Ensure your load doesn't exceed maximum overhang regulations and is properly marked with a warning flag if required. Check your insurance covers transporting boats.
